Complex code requirements might intimidate some, but they pique the interest of Viral. He leads the fire protection group in SmithGroup’s Washington, DC office, and is responsible for fire protection engineering designs, code consulting, building condition assessments and construction administration services. "I love to interact with fellow colleagues to generate solutions to complex code issues," he remarks. "It’s rewarding to know that I can influence the life safety features in a building." Viral has worked on several highly visible facilities, including the White House Visitor Center, the Washington Dulles International Airport expansion and the Smithsonian Institution’s National Museum of Natural History. Yet he’s particularly proud of a lesser-known project, a small community outpatient clinic in Washington, DC. "Our integrated SmithGroup team took an old, outdated clinic serving low-income residents and transformed it into a beautiful, modern building the community can be proud of."
